BK Gulf is the first company in the Middle East & Africa to achieve certification to BSI’s BIM Verification scheme
BK Gulf is the first company in the Middle East and Africa that has achieved certification to the British Standards Institution’s (BSI) Building Information Modeling Verification Scheme (BIM).
In order to achieve verification of their BIM capability, BK Gulf had to demonstrate compliance to the requirements of PAS 1192-2 Standard, Information Management for the Capital/Delivery Phase of Construction Projects, through an independent audit by BSI. The audit involved an assessment of their documented procedures and systems for all processes in the PAS 1192-2 Standard, BS 1192:2007, Collaborative Production of Architectural, Engineering and Construction Information Code of Practice and BS 1192-4:2014, Collaborative Production of Information Part 4: Fulfilling Employers Information Exchange Requirements Using COBie – Code of Practice.
BSI’s BIM Verification Scheme was launched in December 2015 and was designed with input from influential industry experts. This scheme was developed to provide contractors, designers and their supply chains with evidence that they have the capability to deliver projects using BIM. The PAS 119-2 Standard sets out how to share information on BIM projects and lists the requirements for Design and Construction BIM Level 2. It makes recommendations for the adoption of industry conventions, challenges project complacency and promotes consistency and transparency of work processes between parties. PAS 1192-2 is one of the series of standards designed to drive cost savings and efficiencies through waste reduction and improved collaboration.
The BIM Verification Scheme Certificate was presented to Mr. Zeyad Baker, Executive Director of Dutco Balfour Beatty Group, by Mr. Theuns Kotze, Regional Managing Director of BSI Middle East and Africa, during a handover ceremony held at the BK Gulf Head Office.
Steve O’Sullivan BK Gulf General Manager commented: ‘the BIM certification by BSI is an important milestone and achievement in our journey of continuous improvement. At BK Gulf we are committed to provide our customers with the highest levels of service and value in delivery. With engineering being at the heart of our business, this certification is a reflection of the world class standard attained by our Engineering staff and business as a whole.’
Theuns Kotze, commented: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for BK Gulf, BSI’s BIM Verification Scheme was developed in collaboration with industry stakeholders to ensure that they address key issues and add value. I would like to congratulate BK Gulf who have demonstrated their compliance to the requirements of PAS 1192-2, BS 1192 and BS 1192-4.’
Andy Butterfield, Director of Built Environment, at BSI said: “BIM is now at the heart of the future strategy for the construction industry in many parts of the world and it’s great to see that BK Gulf is leading the way in the Middle East and Africa. In today’s market, the requirement for faster, more efficient delivery of infrastructure or building projects is vital for clients and therefore organizations must be able to demonstrate their capability to deliver projects using BIM. Steve O’Sullivan, Aly Diab, Mohamed Kabbani and the team at BK Gulf should be congratulated on this achievement and we’re very pleased to have supported them throughout the process.”
